How we verify
Washington Contractor Check is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.

- L&I contractor registrations (data.wa.gov m8qx-ubtq) — Every contractor registration and electrical and plumbing contractor licence: number, business, specialty, status, effective and expiry dates, UBI and principal.
- L&I contractor bond filings (bzff-4fmt) — Bonds filed with L&I: surety, amount, effective and expiry date.
- L&I contractor insurance filings (ciwg-agsx) — Liability insurance filed with L&I: insurer, amount and expiry date.

We download the Washington L&I contractor file (data.wa.gov, dataset m8qx-ubtq) and keep registrations with status Active and a Washington address whose expiry date has not passed and that show no suspension date on or before the day we checked. We join the L&I bond filings (bzff-4fmt) and insurance filings (ciwg-agsx) on the licence number, and use the most recent bond that has not expired (or is written "until canceled") and the insurance policy with the latest unexpired date.
A construction or plumbing contractor is listed only if it has both a current bond and current liability insurance on file. An electrical contractor is listed on an active licence and a current bond; the electrical contractor filing asks for workers' compensation coverage, not a liability policy, so no insurance amount is shown unless L&I holds one.
To keep the site to a manageable size we list the trades homeowners hire most: general contractors and remodelers, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, tree service, excavation and side sewer, concrete and masonry, siding and gutters, fencing, framing, drywall and insulation, garage doors and glazing. Other specialties (for example painting, flooring, landscaping, tile and cabinetry) are not listed yet. General contractors are the largest group; we currently list those whose registration took effect in 2023 or earlier, and will widen this as the site grows. A contractor missing from this site is not necessarily unregistered; check L&I directly.
The registration effective date is shown as published by L&I. The bond amount, surety and dates, and the insurance amount, insurer and expiry, are shown exactly as filed. Order within a city: longest-registered first, then alphabetical. Featured contractors appear in a separate, labelled box and never change that order.
We do not publish complaints, citations or lawsuits. L&I's verification tool shows those, and we link to it on every profile.
What a badge means
Licensed, bonded & insured: the contractor appears in the Washington Department of Labor and Industries contractor file with an active registration or licence, a current bond on file and, for construction and plumbing contractors, current liability insurance on file on the date shown. Electrical contractors are listed on licence and bond; liability insurance is not part of their L&I filing. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.
Freshness
Data was last refreshed on 2026-09-30. L&I updates its contractor data daily; we re-pull the files weekly.
